Phoenix, Arizona

5/12 – 5/19/2024 – We arrived at Monte Vista RV Resort on Sunday and will stay for a week. Our campsite is pretty spacious at the back of the RV section.

Monday we hung out at the Resort and enjoyed the pool.

Tuesday we ventured out and drove to Canyon Lake, located in Tonto National Forest. What a drive!!! Once we were past the city the road was very curvy and led us into the mountains, past Canyon Lake and finally to Tortilla Flats where the road ended at a gate. The views in that area are amazing. Wednesday we went to the Capitol of AZ in Phoenix. The building still being used for some govenmental departments, but mainly a museum depicting the history of AZ. Lots of information, however also disappointing that there was virtualy nothing about the rich history of the native Indians in this area.

Thursday another day of Rest and Relax with some maintenance work on Schnitzel and SuziQ.

Friday we drove to Casa Grande Ruins National Monument near Coolidge, about an hours drive south of us. These ruins are from buildings used by the seert people from an era about 1500 to 500 years ago. Very interesting if you think that this area is in the middle of a desert. These people build an irrigation system with about 220 miles of canals to be able to grow corn, squash and other vegetables. Pretty advanced for that time.

Today, Saturday Maria is grocery shopping, I am doing some maintenance work and then of to the pool. The temperature is reaching 102 – 104 degrees today!!!

Sunday, we will pack up and move to our next destination, northwest Phoenix for another week in this area.

Until next time,

Maria and Bernhard
