On our way to Oregon

Our first stop  after leaving Rangely, CO was Firefighters Memorial Campground in the Flaming Gorge Recreational Area near Dutch John, UT. It was dry camping, so we stayed only  2 nights. We have been in this area with our little trailer before, but decided to visit again since the area is offering a lot of outdoor activities. One morning we stopped at the Ranger Station and the Ranger recommended to drive Sheep Creek Geological Loop Road. This road is 13 miles and  offers a scenic drive and hiking experience with unique geological features, including the Uinta Fault. The views were fantastic and the rock formations stunning. Time well spent. After driving the loop we decided to drive around Flaming Gorge which brought us into Wyoming in the north and then back into Utah on the east side of the Gorge. The Scenery was magnificent and we had to cross the Dam before we made it back to our campsite.

Next stop was a Cracker Barrel in Layton, UT near Salt Lake City. Here we had a cup of Coffee and a Peach Cobbler with some Vanilla Ice Cream after we arrived.  The remainder of the day we spent hanging around in Schnitzel and called it an early bed time. In the morning we enjoyed one of the main benefits of Crackerdocking – Breakfast at the Restaurant. After Breakfast, we headed out to the Salt Flats near Wendover, UT. We stayed on BLM Land close to Bonneville where multiple speed records were set.

After our one night stay we drove into Nevada where we planed to stay on BLM Land again, however, it was next to a busy road. We called a Campground in McDermitt to see if they had any site available for us. Luckily they had, so we drove another 35 miles. The Town of McDermitt is situated in Nevada and Oregon. The school next to our campsite was half in Nevada and half in Oregon.

Next stop, Harney County Fairgrounds in Burns, OR. After setting up, we went to their County Museum which was interesting. It had a lot of displays of local history, important Families, Industries and also lots of donated equipment like saddles, vintage clothes, medical equipment, and Lumber mill and Blacksmith tools. Very interesting.

After one night we we packed up and headed to Cascade Meadows RV Resort in La Pine, OR where we will stay for 7 nights.

Until next update,

Maria and Bernhard
