Moab, UT

Outdoor Sun Campground North Moab 07/14 – 07/21/2024 – Sunday July 14th we packed up and headed out to Moab, UT. We drove “convoy” with Dorsey and Kyle who followed us in Gertrude, their Motorhome. First stop was a detour we had to take where a Pilot Car is being used. The detour was a “graded” gravel/dirt road, about 7-8miles long and we were pretty much either avoiding potholes and driving on washboard road or vs-a-versa, but it was doable. About 25 miles before we reached our destination the Highway was closed due to a major accident and we waited 3hours before we could continue and drive the last 25 miles to our site for one week. Here we met with Friends, Kelly and Chris from Florida.

Tuesday we visited to Arches NP and were in awe on what nature is capable of.

Wednesday morning we took Kelly and Chris to Canyonland NP and showed them Shafer Trail Rd which drops 1500ft with lots of switchbacks. In the afternoon Dorsey, Maria, Kyle and I “boarded” SuziQ and headed to drive the Shafer Trail Rd and then Potash Rd. Both roads are mostly dirt, gravel or rock and in some areas VERY rocky, but SuziQ was a trooper and besides some new rattles made this nearly 5hour trip without any issues. The views were spectacular with a Sandstone wall on one side and a steep drop off into the Colorado River on the other. On Potash Rd we stopped at the pools where Potash is harvested after the water evaporated which leaves the Potash behind. The pools were a very blue color which was spectacular. The icing on the cake were Petroglyphs towards the end of our trip right next to the road.  What fun we had.

Thursday we stayed at the campground with some pool time and a game with our friends in the evening. Another great days spent with great friends.

Friday morning, three of us went into Arches NP to see the sunrise which did not disappoint.

Saturday morning we plan to take a guided tour on Side by side ATV’s to Hells Revenge. Updates on this adventure will most likely come early next week.

Until next time,

Maria and Bernhard
