First two stops in Texas

1/8/2025 – After driving nearly 300 miles, our first stop in TX was a Cracker Barrel in Katy, just west of Houston. Here we spent the night and enjoyed a great breakfast in the morning.

Next stop was Thousand Trails Colorado River near Columbus, TX. Here we stay until January, 19.  The weather on Sunday was great, high 70 to low 80 during the day. Over night the temperature plummeted to below freezing and has not really recovered to normal. Yesterday, Tuesday, we did a nice tour of multiple Painted Churches in this area.  Most of them were build in the late 1800 or early 1900 by the Czech, Austrian and German immigrants and are in very good repairs. Very impressive. For lunch we stopped in La Grange at a small restaurant named “Bodega” where we sat next to two local ladies who we had a very nice conversation about travels, local history and places to see in the area. After lunch we went across the street to the courthouse which had some nice displays about the City and surrounding area.

Today is a “slow day” with temperatures barely reaching the mid 40th and overcast with 100% rain in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow.
