Coeur d’Alene, ID to Hermosa, SD

Time for an update.

9/6/25 – arriving at Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV in Coeur d’Alene, ID

Coeur d’Alene is  a  smaller city that offers a  lot of outdoor  activities related to fishing, boating and hiking. We visited the Museum of  North Idaho. The museum  is about the history  of  northern Idaho with native Indians, Logging  and  other industries.

9/12/25  – Tri-County Fairgrounds in  Deer  Lodge, MT.  Stopped here for one night.

9/13/25 – Absaroka Bay RV Park in  Cody, WY

Cody is the hometown of Buffalo Bill. Here we visited the Buffalo Bill Center of the West which is 5 Museums under one roof. They have a collection of 10,000 to 12,000 firearms  (old and new) on display in one wing. One wing id dedicated to the life of Buffalo Bill, another to the native  Indians. The other areas are Geology and an Art gallery of local artists. Very nice Center.

We also visited the Dam on  the Shoshone River which was built in 1911. At one point in time it was the highest Dam in the World.

9/20/25  – Crook County Fairground  Sundance, WY. Stopped here for a night. They had a Goat Show/Competition going on  in  the Fair Building.

9/21/25 – Heartland RV  Park & Cabins in Hermosa, SD

This campground is about 7 miles from Custer State Park. This week we drove Needles Highway which provides some great views of Mt. Rushmore. Also the rock formations along Needles Hwy is very unique and is gave the name to the highway. On Thursday they kicked of the Art Festival within Custer State Park where local Artists showed their Art. Lots of nice crafts could be seen. Friday morning we headed out early  (6AM)  to  watch the yearly Buffalo Roundup. 20 – 25,000 visitors show up to watch this event. At about 11AM the Buffalo (850-1300) came over a hill and  the drivers (Cowboys???) drove them towards the big corral where they got penned up for counting, health check, vaccination and pregnancy tests. The event was over at  11:45  and the madness of thousands  of  cars leaving  the park  started. We made  it back to our  campground  (maybe 20 miles) at  2:30PM. This is a  once in a lifetime  visit for  us and we enjoyed it a lot. Saturday was  R&R (Rest and Relax)Day. Sunday we packed up and  continued our  trek to the east.

Until next update, Maria and Bernhard
