Cascade Meadows RV Resort, La Pine, OR

After arriving at our new Home, we set up and enjoyed a quiet afternoon. Sunday we went into La Pine to do some Grocery shopping and explored the little town. La Pine has a population of about 2500 and is at an elevation of 4250ft. It is surrounded by Lava fields and some pretty massive mountains. Monday we went to Lava Lands and walked the interpretive trail though the Lava field which was very interesting. We also drove up the Lava Butte where the views were stunning.

Tuesday we explored the Big Obsidian Flow area. This area is huge, but most of it was still covered in Snow. Next stop was Paulina lake and East Lake. There is a nice USFS Campground at East Lake with Electricity and Water at the sites and a Dump Station at the entrance. Something to keep in mind for our next visit in this area.

Thursday we went to visit The High Desert Museum near Sunriver. What a nice Museum. The indoor displays include information about the different Indian tribes from this area, Mining, Settlers arriving, Native Plants and Animals. The outdoor area has some Otters, Birds of Prey, a Homestead and a Sawmill from the early 19 hundreds that is still in working condition. Unfortunately we were to early in the season so the mill was not operating. maria and I spent more than 3 hours at this place and left very impressed. A place to visit again in the future.

Today, Friday, we stay at the campground and do some basic maintenance and get ready to leave for LePage COE Campground at the Columbia River tomorrow.

Until next update,

Maria and Bernhard
