Brookville Mounds State Recreation Area

08/06/23-08/13/2023 – Here it is Saturday and we will be packing up tomorrow to leave.

On Tuesday we went to one of Indiana’s Historic Canal Towns, Metamora. It is located along the Whitewater Canal and was named after the popular 1829 play, Metamora, or The Last of the Wampanoags. Metamora was established in 1838. There are still lots of structures from the early years, including a Canal Lock, Aqueduct, Gristmill and historic houses. While were there it was “dead”, but they have monthly events so you need to plan your visit.

Thursday we explored Brookville. It is a nice little town located below the Dam of Lake Brookville. Lots of older buildings with a Courthouse in the center of the town. We also walked the Dam wall, visited the Outlook and Visitor Center. Very nice area.

Friday was shopping day and we drove to Oxford, OH which is a College Town. One of these days we might come back and spend some time walking the downtown area.

Saturday, today, we did some minor maintenance on Schnitzel before the Thunderstorm came in and now we are hanging around inside watch TV, knit (Maria) and update our website (Bernhard). Later on we will mount our bicycles on the bicycle rack on the back of Schnitzel in preparation for our departure tomorrow.

Until next update,

Maria and Bernhard
