At last we have some reliable Internet service again!!
August 10th we moved to Thousand Trails South Jetty RV Resort in Florence, OR.
Here we took it easy with some walks at the beach and a lot of Rest and Relax.
August 17th Thousand Trails Pacific City RV Park in Cloverdale, OR.
Not too far from our Campground was the Tillamook Creamery where they have a nice “Visitor Center ” with windows to watch how they manufacture their different cheese products. There are signs at the windows which explain the different stages, from raw milk to ready to sell packaged product. The highlight were the free samples of course!!! They also serve food and ice cream. The line for ice cream was long and we decided to come back another day which we did and the ice cream was delicious!
Since the campground was just across the street from the beach, we had multiple strolls on the sand. We really enjoyed this area.
August 24th Mt. Hood Village RV Resort in Welches, OR.
Here we drove to Timberlodge about halfway up Mt. Hood. This is a major skiing area in the Winter and a Mountain bike and hiking paradise during the warmer seasons. One day we decided to explore the roads that lead around Mt. Hood. At Wood River we stopped for a cup of coffee and some pastry. Wood River is located where Wood River flows into the Columbia River. The town itself is very scenic with lots of Cafes and Restaurants. Here we crossed Columbia River into Washington and followed that road. We stopped at a scenic area next to the river and took a short hike along the river. We found an old gravestone from 1861 and some old railroad tracks and wagon axles. Close to Portland we crossed the Columbia River into Oregon again and headed back to our campground.
September 1st Thousand Trails Paradise RV Campground, Silver Creek, WA.
The drive to this campground was very scenic and on the last 2 miles or so we had to climb up a mountain with stunning views into the valley. No wonder they call this campground Paradise. The campground is not too far from Mount St. Helens. One of the ladies at a Visitor Center we stopped at recommended to visit Ape Caves. Ape Caves are Lava tubes you can go into and explore. There is no light, so you need to bring a flashlight or two. We did the 3/4 mile long tube and enjoyed the darkness and solitude. The other option is a 1 1/2 mile long tube which we decided to do next time when we are in the area.
September 5th Pier 4 Resort, Moses Lake, WA.
The drive to Moses Lake brought us close to Mt. Rainier where the smoke from wildfires in that area was very thick which brought visibility down to maybe 60 to 80 ft. Needless to say that we did not stop at any scenic overlooks, however the drive through this area was still nice. This stop was just for a night, so after we went for a swim in the pool we hung out in the Motorhome watching TV.
September 6th Kootenai County Fairgrounds RV Park, Coeur d’Alene, ID.
Here we will stay for a week and then head further east towards Cody, WY.
Until next update, Maria and Bernhard
