Running from Hurricane Milton

Here we go again. With Hurricane Milton forming in the Gulf of Mexico and Orlando being in the projected path I decided to look for campgrounds in  North Florida. Luckily Red Rooster RV Park near Lake City had a site available. On  Tuesday , 10/ 08/2024 I headed  out early in the morning to drive north. Traffic on  US  27 was flowing  very nicely , however once  on I-75  it was a slow moving parking  lot  with all the people leaving  South and  Central Florida. What should have taken 3 hours took over 5  hours,  however I made it. Some Gas Stations  close  to the Interstate had no fuel anymore and the ones that had there was a line  of 50-60 cars. Once off the Interstate I fueled  up at a Mom and Pop station and drove the remaining  10 mile to the campground. After setting up,  a “quick” trip to the grocery  store  and  then Rest and Relax.  The  sunset on Tuesday evening  was  spectacular. It looked  as  if the land was on  fire. (see  pictures).    Wednesday was very rainy with some wind. In the evening  I put   the slides  in in preparation of  higher wind. Schnitzel was rocking  from side to side but nothing scary. Thursday  morning  I took a walk around the campground but there was no damage anywhere. The campground owners , Kay and Scott treated all of us to homemade  Cinnamon  Rolls which  was  a  nice touch.  I will stay here until Sunday  since  there are lots power  outages  in the Orlando area and most likely the campground  I want  to go back to is affected.

Until next update,

Bernhard
