On Friday, September 15th we moved to Tievoli Hills Resort & Campground near Clarksville, MO. The Campground is very remote (quiet!!!) about 85 miles west of ST. Louis.
Saturday we went to Mark Twain’s Memorial Shrine in Florida, MO. They had a Quilt Show which made Maria very happy. Lots of nice quilts on display with Mark Twain’s life story in between.
Sunday we drove to St. Louis, crossed the Missouri and parked next to the Mississippi. Gateway Arch was our main destination. We went up the Arch (630ft) which was not disappointing. The views from the top were great and the Museum was educational. After a quick lunch we drove across the Mississippi to the Cahokia Mounds. TCahokia Mounds is a Natinal Historic Landmark and one of 24 UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the USA. It is the largest pre-Columbian site north of Mexico and dominated the Midwest during its peak about 1050CE to 1150CE. 2200 acres of the ancient site are now preserved by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
